Being Prepared for your Social Security Disability Hearing

Preparation for your hearing is an ongoing process, from the first appointment made with Social Security, with every report and appeal that is filed, and at each appointment with your doctors. If you are working with a representative from Golson & McCracken we will be guiding you throughout your claim so that your medical conditions and other factors are documented completely and thoroughly by the time you reach your hearing.

In the weeks before your hearing, your representative will request that you provide a prescription history from any pharmacy, provider, or prescription plan that provides you with your medications. This is submitted to Social Security to document your medical compliance during the course of your illness, as well as your current medication list.

We will have at least one pre-hearing conference with you to ensure that you understand the issues in your claim, are prepared for the types of questions that will be asked, and understand how to answer the questions so that the judge hearing your case will understand the scope of your pain and functional impairments. For example a claimant who is asked how long can they stand will often if unprepared say “a little while,” which could mean one thing to them and another thing entirely to the judge.

We will also be able to answer any questions or concerns that you have. We understand how intimidated you may be, and how much this hearing means to your future. We suggest making a list of questions before our conference, so that we can cover everything.

If you have questions regarding Social Security hearings, and what you can do to prepare, call Golson & McCracken.
