We were very happy to attend this event that took place at Festival Park in downtown Fayetteville. Homeless veterans and civilians were welcomed, and the service of the veterans was honored. Although the temperature soared that day, there were countless attendees. Volunteers came around frequently with ice cold water to keep all of us hydrated.

The community really turned out for this event. There was live music on the outdoor stage. Representatives from the Veterans Administration, Social Security Administration, and Department of Social Services were present to offer assistance and information. Job Placement and Educational Assistance was offered. There were free health screenings and haircuts. Clothing and duffle bags were distributed to those who needed them.

We had the opportunity to offer advice on the importance of filing claims and appealing claims in a timely manner. Many of the veterans present had not been aware that they are eligible for benefits through the Veterans Administration and Social Security.

We look forward to attending this Stand Down for many years to come.
