Sadly, many of those who have made the biggest sacrifices for our country are now homeless.

Veteran Stand Downs are events that the Department of Veterans Affairs holds to provide services to homeless Veterans. Services offered can include food, clothing, health screenings, counseling on VA and Social Security benefits, and referrals to health care, housing, and employment services. Stand Downs may be coordinated between local VAs, other government agencies, and community agencies serving the homeless.

Golson, McCracken Inc was privileged to attend the Durham and Raleigh Veteran Stand Downs, and are planning to be at the Wayne County Veterans Outreach Stand Down in Goldsboro, N.C. on November 6, 2013.

The Stand Downs that we attended were impressive events. Local and state dignitaries were present to honor those that had served, and to offer an opportunity to link with constituent services that can assist with Federal and State services. Veterans were able to get free haircuts, health screenings, reading glasses, dufffle bags, razors, and various other personal care items.

We met some really great people, and enjoyed the breakfast and lunch that was provided for all.
