Why Does It Take So Long to Get a Hearing?

Close to three million Social Security Disability (SSD) claims are filed every single year and of these claims, less than one million are approved. Individuals who do not get their SSD claims approved on the initial submission or after reconsideration will have only 60 days in which to request a hearing with an Administrative Law Judge.

If every single individual who had been denied benefits appealed the decision, that would mean two million hearings per year. The sheer volume of applicants alone has a substantial impact on the length of time it takes to get a hearing. Wait times have been known to go as high as 353 days as of 2012, and were even higher back in 2008 when wait times were 514 days. Wait times are generally between 12 months and 18 months in NC.

At Golson, McCracken Inc. our North Carolina Social Security Disability advocates realize that this wait time can lead to extreme hardship. It is for that reason we always seek retroactive benefits for our clients so that once their claim is approved, they will be able to receive current benefits along with any past due benefits that they deserve. Documentation plays a key role in these cases, so you can trust that we will work with you closely to gather all of the evidence needed to prove your claim and provide it to the Social Security Administration for review.

We will also prepare you for your hearing and advise you along each step of the way so that you are not left wondering where your case stands. Having our knowledgeable team on your side will significantly increase the chances of getting your SSD claim approved in a timely fashion. If you are pursuing SSD benefits and you want to have an advocate you can trust to fight for what is in your best interests, we recommend you waste no time in reaching out to our firm.

Contact a Social Security Disability advocate from our team right away so that we can review your case and immediately get started on preparations for your hearing.
